Sigma Chi Sigma's founding semester was Fall of 2006. The organization was concieved and founded by several computer science freshmen and graduating seniors in the Spring of 2006. The original concept of the fraternity was to emulate the CS Freshman Interest Group on a much larger scale; extending it to all classifications and ages.
We believe that providing a solid conduit of communication between the Texas State University Computer Science Department, fellow classmates, and graduate students would provide much needed support to undergraduates learning to adjust to the new level of thinking that is involved in Computer Science.
We also wanted to provide further learning for both upper and lower-classmen. Related project ideas are never taboo and students can use the network of other interested Computer Science students to create a committee or team to accomplish a goal (funded/supported by the organization) that would cater to their specific interests. Pursuing an ACM (Association of Computing Machienery) charter for the organization, we believe, will also provide a much larger base for literary resources and communicative resources and we are currently doing so.
