Freshman Interest Group (FIG)What is a Freshman Interest Group?A Freshman Interest Group (FIG) is a group of 8-16 freshman students pursuing the same academic major, minor, or interest. An upperclassman student seeking the same degree advises the FIG students while providing peer support. Texas State's Freshman Interest Group program is offered to selected majors, including computer science. Who can participate?Any Freshman student who plans to enroll as a computer science major at Texas State and live on campus is eligible to apply. All FIG students block enroll in the same classes and live in a common area of their residence hall. Group participation in the FIG program among friends is welcome and encouraged. Why might I want to participate?Freshman Interest Groups are the future of Texas State's residential education. With an upperclassman Peer Assistant providing mentor support, FIG students will better succeed in their studies, forge new friendships, and enjoy the benefits of having others available to share knowledge and skills. Texas State's FIG program provides an academically stimulating and rewarding experience for all. Plus, it's fun! I'm interested in becoming a computer science FIG student.
