Learning Community (formerly Freshman Interest Group-FIG)What is a Learning Community?A Learning Community is a group of 8-16 students pursuing the same academic major, minor, or interest. An upperclassman student seeking the same degree advises the students in the Learning Community while providing peer support. Texas State's Learning Community program is offered to selected majors, including computer science. Who can participate?Any student who plans to enroll as a computer science major at Texas State and live on campus is eligible to apply. All students in the Learning Community block enroll in the same classes and live in a common area of their residence hall. Group participation in the Learning Community program among friends is welcome and encouraged. Why might I want to participate?Learning Communities are the future of Texas State's residential education. With an upperclassman Peer Assistant providing mentor support, students in the Learning Community will better succeed in their studies, forge new friendships, and enjoy the benefits of having others available to share knowledge and skills. Texas State's Learning Community program provides an academically stimulating and rewarding experience for all. Plus, it's fun! I'm interested in participating in the Computer Science Learning Community. How can I find out more about this?Prospective CS students interested in participating should contact the computer science department directly. Or, you can request information and apply online here.
