When you think eccentric behavior, a variety of synonyms may come to mind. Some, like unconventional or uncommon, are gentle while others are more aggressive; think aberrant. My personal favorite is extraordinary. Long ago I hardwired my brain to convert descriptions of my own slightly strange views or behavior into a roadmap.

Bio

My wife and I just celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary. We have two dogs, two children and live in North Austin. For past several years I have spent a considerable amount of my free time contributing to projects loosely associated with the Maker community. After multiple commits, contests and faires I have recently pulled back my involvement though I still follow major contributors. In addition to my support for the Maker community, I strongly advocate for the expansion of open source and green energy.

Interests

Outside of professional development I enjoy a wide range of hobbies from gardening to power sports. I try to swim laps at least twice a week. Annually we sow a garden for both summer and winter. After many years I wish I could say I have developed some level of expertise, but despite little success I still enjoy the time spent. Additionally, I make time for guests to explore and learn more about the Austin Energy Green Building program by sharing my experience building a 5 star Accessory Dwelling Unit. For a time I thought I would take a professional interest in alternative construction but ultimately I have given over that territory to computer science. On the power sports front, while I no longer own a motorcycle I try to regularly be seen on a boat or off road. I have some aviation background limited to soaring. Finally, I have to mention retro computing. Specific research interests can be found here.

Career

Previously I have worked in the mobile, scientific, and gaming industries.
