Program and Application Information for Engineering Majors

Students who apply to the H-LSAMP Scholars Program must     be a declared major in one of the following:
►electrical engineering
►industrial engineering
►manufacturing engineering

  Why be an H-LSAMP Scholar at Texas State?

• You will be among a community of scholars recognized for academic excellence and         the ambition to pursue graduate study and a challenging career
• You will receive a scholarship, typically $1500 per long semester
• You will have opportunities to participate in research, academic conferences, faculty  mentoring, internships, interdisciplinary seminars and workshops, community service,       and social events
• You will be an integral part of the College of Science Collaborative Learning Center

  What do H-LSAMP Scholars do at Texas State?

  During each long semester, all H-LSAMP scholars:

• Work with a faculty mentor (meeting with your faculty mentor at least 3 times per semester discuss career goals, research interests, graduate school, and academic issues)
• Attend 4 H-LSAMP-sponsored workshops/seminars
• Tutor 2 hours a week in the Collaborative Learning Center
• Help recruit other students to the program
• Develop a resume for use at conferences, career fairs, employment interviews, etc.
• Attend one academic advising appointment per semester

   You will also choose one of the following project tracks:

• Research: work with a faculty member in a research lab or setting
• Internship: academically-related internship, volunteer service internship, or H-LSAMP  program component project
• Conference: attend a professional conference in your field of study

  What is expected of H-LSAMP Scholars at Texas State?

• You must have every intention of graduating from one of the participating universities in no more than five years with a baccalaureate degree in the sciences, technology, engineering,  or mathematics
• You must remain a full time student and maintain at least a 2.5 major/TX State/overall GPA
• It is preferred that you work no more than 15 hours per week in a job unrelated to your field   of study
• You will be expected to participate actively in the CLC, fulfill your individual Scholar Plan of Action, and attend all required H-LSAMP activities and events
• Your record will be reviewed each semester and the level of continued support will be determined by your fulfillment of all program requirements, level of participation in the           H-LSAMP community of scholars, and progress towards your degree (GPA, hours, and grades completed each semester)
